It’s time to say goodbye…
This is a sad notice unfortunately…
I started Buffalo Sears’ in July 2017 with the goal of creating a great environment for people who enjoyed smoky BBQ, life itself and taking time out for some of life’s greatest pleasures; simple indulgence in the camaraderie of friends & family.
And for many months this was a great, thriving little business. I was continuously meeting and enjoying the company of new people who loved BBQ, beers and bourbons and who simply enjoyed living life.
It certainly was never going to be an easy task building a restaurant from scratch, but it was a lot of fun in the beginning.
It made my day to be voted the Top 5 Rib Joint by Gold Coast Bulletin and Top Best 3 restaurants on the coast by the Gold FM listeners in their call in and vote competition.
Then my original partner and chef, who started with me had to leave for personal reasons beyond my control. Then my incredible manager Helena, whom many of you know and loved, left on maternity leave.
Since then, it has been a constant struggle to try and find staff who care as deeply about our customers’ experience, look after my regulars and uphold my original vision and values.
The saga continues…for the last year or so, my focus has been unnecessarily diverted by constant battles with the head of the body corporate for the Buffalo Sears premises — constant noise complaints to council, and a myriad of other complaints about bins, smoke and the everyday goings on in the restaurant.
If you have ever had to deal with this, you will know how draining this kind of constant effort takes to keep fighting on.
So regrettably, I have decided to close the restaurant.
Life is too short for this nonsense.
I will continue on with my other business interests and enjoy the company of fellow BBQ’ers with a new project I’ve detailed below.
The good news is, all the issues with council and the body corporate have been resolved, since all complaints and claims against me were unable to be substantiated or proven.
So, although my time is done operating a restaurant for now, a great, young Italian chef and his partner are taking over the premises.
They will be starting on Monday 15th April with their new concept – The Belvedere Stone Mill. I hope you give them a go and support them as a local business and a contributor to the community. I certainly will be and may even see you there 🙂
I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support — it really does mean the world to me.
For those unfortunate souls who did not have such a good experience with us, I want to apologise. It was never my intention, and I hope this heartfelt letter goes some way to explaining the reasons why it happened.
I will be launching an online group of friends, where I’ll be sharing my passion for Smoky BBQ with recipes, tips, videos and other great stuff.
Enter your name and email in the form below if you’d like to join (it’s free of course) and I’ll email you more details in the coming weeks.
So, until next time, I wish you the very best in life.
